The Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, USA invites applications for teaching faculty at all levels (Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Teaching Professor) in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE).
Our program has a large, vibrant, and talented community of students, and we invest heavily in staff and equipment resources to empower faculty to provide students with an extraordinary learning experience.
As job descriptions for Teaching Professors can vary significantly from school to school, we urge applicants to read in detail Cornell’s description of these positions. Teaching faculty at Cornell hold renewable, multi-year contracts and typically teach two classes per term. A description of the teaching faculty titles and expectations as well as the reason for their adoption is listed at deanoffaculty.cornell.edu/faculty-governance/archives/resolutions/resolution-201-approving-cornell-engineerings-use-of-the-teaching-professor-titles/.
Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field as well as the ability to teach multiple courses in the core undergraduate and Masters-level MAE curriculum. We expect teaching faculty to bring passion and excellence broadly to the curriculum, but the department also particularly seeks candidates who are excited to contribute to our teaching endeavor in Energy, Design, or Manufacturing.
In 1868, Ezra Cornell wrote, “I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study,” and we seek faculty members who share this historical commitment. Applicants at the Associate and full teaching professor ranks should have a demonstrated track record of excellence in instruction and curricular development. Applicants at the Assistant Teaching Professor level should show a pattern of early-career training in instruction such as teaching assistantships, training, workshops and/or conferences. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
