Lawrence University

Lawrence University is a residential liberal arts college and conservatory of music in Appleton, Wisconsin comprised of 1,500 students from nearly every state and 50 countries, guided on their journey of engaged learning by 173 professors.

The university is committed to inclusive excellence, which is achieved by the development of intellect and talent, the pursuit of knowledge and understanding, the cultivation of sound judgment, and respect for the perspectives of others.

Lawrence prepares students for lives of achievement, responsible and meaningful citizenship, lifelong learning, and personal fulfillment. Lawrence graduate Thomas Steitz, who received the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, credited his education at Lawrence with teaching him "how to put things together, how to integrate education," a philosophy that underscores the work of our faculty across disciplines. Lawrence has been recognized as one of the Colleges that Change Lives:

As a diverse learning community of scholars and artists, Lawrence provides rich educational opportunities in a residential campus setting. We strive to create a diverse, welcoming learning community where faculty, staff, and students feel confident and supported as they express and embrace all aspects of their identities. Tenets of respect and inclusion help ensure we can cultivate dialogues across differences and develop meaningful citizenship that will meet the challenges of a complex world.

Lawrence is committed to enhancing the diversity of its faculty and staff. We encourage applications from individuals who will help us create a more inclusive Lawrence by:

  1. further diversifying the faculty;
  2. demonstrating experience with successful diversity-related initiatives, creative activity, or research; and/or
  3. showing interest in developing inclusive pedagogy to address the needs of a diverse student body.
