The Department of Psychology and the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC) at the University of Pittsburgh announce a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level, pending budgetary approval. We seek individuals with a program of research in child, adolescent or adult development and learning. We are interested in individuals with demonstrated interest in the interface of race/ethnicity with learning and development. For example:
- Social developmental processes that support well-being and promote learning and educational outcomes
- The role of racial/ethnic identity processes in supporting positive developmental and learning outcomes
- Family, school, and community processes that promote positive child and youth development, motivation and positive educational outcomes
- Intervention/prevention efforts targeted at enhancing learning and development
The person filling this position will complement current strengths of the Psychology Department and LRDC and their partnerships with other units of the University, which include the Centers for Urban Education (www.cue.pitt.edu), Race and Social Problems (crsp.pitt.edu), Social and Urban Research (ucsur.pitt.edu), and Parents and Children (www.cpc.pitt.edu).
The Psychology Department (www.psychology.pitt.edu) is committed to excellence in research and in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Its 38 tenure-stream faculty offer five graduate training programs: Biological and Health, Clinical, Cognitive, Developmental, and Social, along with cross-program training opportunities. The interdisciplinary nature of psychological science is reflected in both faculty research interests and collaborations and training options afforded to graduate students.
LRDC (www.lrdc.pitt.edu) brings together faculty across the cognitive, social, computational, and educational sciences to study learning in its cognitive, neural, social, and organizational aspects, and to make links to education practice, policy, and out-of-school settings. Research areas include learning domains, e.g. literacy and STEM, as well as more general learning factors, e.g. motivation and engagement, reasoning and argumentation, and the contexts that support learning and socioemotional development.
