University of Cincinnati
Founded in 1819, the University of Cincinnati embarks upon its third century – building on the past and defining the future by leading urban, public universities into a new era of innovation and impact through its strategic direction, Next Lives Here. Home to a diverse student body of nearly 47,000 and more than 4,200 distinguished faculty, the university combines its R1 Carnegie Classification with a physical setting that The New York Times recently acclaimed as “the most ambitious campus design program in the country.
The Optical Sensors Lab (Strobbia research group, www.strobbialab.org) in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral associate position. Our lab focuses on developing innovative optical sensing solutions to current critical issues in human health, with a particular focus on deployable technologies. Our current research projects aim to the development surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors and relative detection systems for the detection of infectious diseases and water contaminants.
This is a one-year appointment that may be renewed to additional one-year terms, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
The successful candidate in this role, will conduct independent research focused on developing and testing SERS sensors and construct Raman optical devices.
- Background in spectroscopy and optics, preferably in Raman spectroscopy or surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS).
- Experience in synthesis and characterization of metal nanomaterials (e.g., metallic nanoparticles).
Completion of a PhD in Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline is required by the appointment date.
