Microbiology and Molecular Genetics

The College of Biological Sciences, University of California, Davis invites applications for the position of ACADEMIC COORDINATOR for MIC102, MIC103L, MIC104L, and MIC105L classes in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, effective September 1, 2022.

Primary duties of the position include the administrative coordination of the department’s teaching laboratory, which services all three laboratory courses. This includes ensuring the consistency of materials between lab sections, the modernization and optimization of laboratory techniques, and the assessment of how the lab experience reinforces the major’s specific learning objectives. In addition, the Academic Coordinator will be responsible for the ordering and maintaining of bulk supplies for all the laboratories as well as working with the teaching laboratory staff and coordinator in the preparation of solutions, media, disposables, and glassware as needed. In addition, the Academic Coordinator will be responsible for the hiring and co-training of TAs for the various laboratory sections and courses. The Academic Coordinator will work in conjunction with the individual instructors for each class in the training capacity of (Teaching Assistants) TAs.

QUALIFICATIONS: a Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related field, along with a demonstrated understanding of modern microbiology, including recent advances in microbiology and molecular genetics; the willingness to keep abreast of scientific change; excellent writing and communication skills; demonstrated knowledge of modern methods of pedagogy and assessment; excellent interpersonal and administrative skills; excellent time management skills.
