New York University (NYU) Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, visiting faculty position in General Engineering at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2020. The position will be for one academic year.

Our students conduct Vertically Integrated Research projects and participate in an extensive undergraduate summer research program.

A Visiting Professor's primary roles are teaching, mentoring, educational innovation, administrative work, and outreach. The General Engineering Program manages the first-year engineering course EG 1003 Introduction to Engineering and Design. We are seeking a dedicated faculty member who can advance our student's knowledge through prior experience. EG 1003 is a multidisciplinary first-year engineering course that is required for all engineering majors at Tandon. This course is team taught by a group of faculty who are supported by a large team of teaching assistants. Visiting professors teach five recitation sections in addition to supporting course operations.

Visiting faculty in EG 1003 lead the recitation sections. Their role is primarily one of guiding students through the course, orienting students to the field of engineering, improving technical communication skills, explaining the engineering design process, and introducing tools, resources, and terminology to first-year engineering students. EG 1003 faculty are expected to mentor student teams and provide guidance for open-ended semester-long design projects and hands-on laboratory experiments. Their primary responsibility is overseeing all aspects of the course for their given sections.

Visiting faculty will also assist with the operations of the course. This includes management and review of the teaching assistants; purchasing equipment and materials for projects and labs; design of course material and content; and standards for course assessment and delivery.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a PhD in engineering, engineering education, computer science, or related field
  • Candidate should have strong teaching experience, pedagogical training, or a record of industrial experience in these areas.
  • Candidates should have experience with engineering design and analysis, laboratory experiments, team project management, public speaking, and technical/scientific communication.
  • Candidates should have experience with curriculum development, managing a team of students, asset management, educational research, and best practices.
