NIAID: Computational Biology Position (Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree)

Laboratory of Immune System Biology

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
Department of Health and Human Services

Position Description

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) conducts and supports a global program of research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. The Laboratory of Immune System Biology within the NIAID Division of Intramural Research (DIR) located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland is seeking candidates for a computational biology position within the Computational Biology Section. This fully funded position will allow the successful candidate to work in a highly collaborative interdisciplinary environment as part of a team of experimentalists and computational modelers.

One focus will be on developing computational modeling approaches for cellular signaling pathways and multicellular communication using high-performance computing techniques. Another focus will be on developing an analysis platform for multi-omics data as part of a DARPA-funded collaboration aiming at identifying markers of immune activation.

This position will offer the opportunity to acquire a well-rounded interdisciplinary skill set by combining experimental work with training in computational modeling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree with focus on computer science or related field
  • Experience in programming (C/C++ or Java, Python, etc.), ideally in a scientific setting
  • Ability and desire to work in a collaborative environment
  • Interest in quantitative biology approaches
  • Good communication skills

Prior knowledge of cell biology and/or prior experience with high-performance computing is a plus (but not required).

To apply, candidates should send their curriculum vitae (CV), bibliography, the names of three references who may be contacted for letters, and a short statement about their skill set to Dr. Martin Meier-Schellersheim at mschellersheim@nih.gov.
