Postdoc or early stage investigator position in basic, translational, and human studies for "underrepresented" investigator available for up to 3 years. Work in sunny Los Angeles, near the ocean and beach.
The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation is a 501(c)3 independent non-profit biomedical research organization that was founded in 1952. Our investigators are academically affiliated with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and work in partnership with the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
The Ross/Desai laboratory studies developmental programming of offspring hyperphagia and obesity, and the impact of breast milk on newborn growth; funded by NIH RO1 and R21 grants.
Requirements: Applicants must have a PhD (within last 5 years); must meet NIH criteria for “Underrepresented” (minority, disability, disadvantaged) investigators positions (PA-18-906; citizens or non-citizen nationals), and have good communication skills, both in oral and written English language.
Training: Use of rodent models, human subjects, and mammary and neural stem cell cultures.
Laboratory techniques include immunohistochemical, mitochondrial function, molecular biology, metabolomics, and microbiome.
Expectations: Running projects independently, management of mouse studies, maintenance of cell cultures, maintaining and organizing lab inventory, writing of papers and assistance with grant writing. The ideal candidate will have an interest in pursuing a project in this area and will be highly motivated to independently develop proficiency in experimental approaches and learn and implement new experimental techniques.
Development of Independent Focus: Scientific presentations, conference meetings, independent funding, opportunity to supervise undergraduate students and develop mentoring and leadership skills
