Postdoctoral Associate in Coastal Urban Sustainability and Resilience

The Sea Level Solutions Center in the Institute of Environment and Earth and Environment Department at Florida International University (FIU) (slsc.fiu.edu) is accepting applications for a postdoctoral research associate to conduct research that advances understanding of coastal urban systems at the interface of sustainability and resilience in the Southeast Florida region, beginning immediately. FIU is a public research university in Miami with a highly diverse, vibrant, and growing faculty and student body located near the eastern boundary of the Everglades and western boundary of Metropolitan Miami. This position is affiliated with the Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research program (fcelter.fiu.edu), Urban Resilience to Extremes Sustainability Research Network (sustainability.asu.edu/urbanresilience/), and a number of other projects at the intersection of sustainability and resilience.

The candidate will: 1) synthesize available social, ecological, and infrastructure data to advance multi-sectoral analyses of sustainability and resilience interventions, 2) design new experiments focused at the urban-natural interface and collect new data to support the expansion of coastal urban observation systems and monitoring, and 3) collaborate with local practitioners and academic scientists to apply synthetic information and modeling to advance coastal urban sustainability and resilience in the Southeast Florida region. The selected candidate will join an existing collaborative team of graduate students, faculty, and local practitioners with a shared goal of advancing coastal urban sustainability and resilience in the face of multiple shocks and stresses.

A PhD in geography, environmental sciences, social sciences, economics or environmental engineering is required. A multidisciplinary background is preferred. Required skills include proficiency in computational modeling. Experience with scenario modeling and analysis is preferred. Coastal or urban systems field monitoring experience is desired.
