The Fermilab Theoretical Physics Department invites applications for Postdoctoral Research Associate appointments in the Particle Physics Group starting in the Fall of 2021. Fermilab Theory postdocs perform self-directed theoretical research in particle physics on topics of their own choosing. They are encouraged to work with members of the senior scientific staff and other postdocs within the Department. The theoretical Particle Physics Group research program includes neutrino physics, perturbative QCD, lattice QCD, Higgs and flavor physics, collider phenomenology, physics beyond the standard model including theories of dark matter and baryogenesis, and quantum information science (QIS).
The Theoretical Physics Department has deep involvement in the Fermilab experimental program including Neutrino experiments such as MicroBoone, SBND, Icarus and DUNE; the Large Hadron collider CMS experiment, in particular through the LHC Physics Center; and several direct dark matter detection experiments (SENSEI, SuperCDMS, ADMX, LZ, OSCURA) as well as in nurturing novel ideas for dark matter and dark sector experiments. Theory department members can be involved in any of these efforts as well as in the development of future projects.
The staff members of the Particle Physics Group are John Campbell, Marcela Carena, Bogdan Dobrescu, Patrick Fox, Walter Giele, Roni Harnik, Christopher Hill, Stefan Hoeche, Andreas Kronfeld, Pedro Machado, Stephen Parke, Noemi Rocco, Ruth Van de Water and Michael Wagman, and emeritus scientists William Bardeen, Estia Eichten, Paul Mackenzie, and Christopher Quigg. There is also strong synergy with staff members of the Theoretical Astrophysics Group that includes Joshua Frieman, Nick Gnedin, Dan Hooper, Gordan Krnjaic, and Albert Stebbins.
Postdoctoral research associates in the Fermilab Theoretical Physics Department are appointed for three years.
