The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Dartmouth College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or tenured appointment (open-rank) in Systems/Behavioral Neuroscience with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023.
We seek applicants with a record of excellence in research and who are able to provide high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We are interested in qualified candidates who use advanced neurobiological methods to study the mechanisms underlying cognitive and behavioral function using small mammals as an experimental model.
Our department offers the best of a well-resourced, externally funded research university environment along with the integrative and cross-disciplinary nature of a liberal arts institution. In particular, our state-of-the-art research and teaching facility houses human cognitive/social neuroscience and small-animal behavioral/systems neuroscience in the same building. Collaboration across areas centered on common research questions and/or methods is frequent and encouraged. For more information, see: pbs.dartmouth.edu.
The broader neuroscience community at Dartmouth includes research programs in the Department of Biological Sciences, Geisel School of Medicine, Thayer School of Engineering, and the cross-departmental Integrative Neuroscience at Dartmouth (IND) graduate program. Behavioral/systems neuroscience labs in the department attract strong graduate students via the PhD program in Psychological and Brain Sciences as well as the IND program.
The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, and Dartmouth as a whole, are highly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first-generation college graduates. Applicants are encouraged to discuss in their diversity statement how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion, such as the Women in Science Program, E. E. Just STEM Scholars Program, and Academic Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (ASURE).
Applicants should have a PhD in Neuroscience or a closely related field, or be ABD with degree received before the start of the appointment. Candidates qualified for the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure should have a proven track-record of outstanding teaching and scholarship in the field, and the potential for broader forms of institutional and administrative leadership.
