The Department of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in experimental or theoretical chemistry. The successful applicant will benefit from Carnegie Mellon’s interdisciplinary environment and our strengths in environmental, biological, and materials chemistry. Emerging focus areas in the Department include modern data-driven/automated approaches to design and synthesis of new materials. Research that addresses challenges related to the behavior of molecules in complex environments (e.g. catalytic, light-driven and biological processes) are of particular interest. Some envisioned activities include development of molecular-level tools for the environmentally-benign synthesis and lifecycle (preparation, molecular recycling/degradation and remediation) of chemicals, polymers, materials, and fuels.
We seek scientists who are eager to join and contribute to a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that promotes innovative research, education, and service initiatives. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a closely-related field and preferably relevant postdoctoral research experience. Selection will be based in part on a record of research publications in internationally-recognized peer-reviewed journals, prospects for obtaining external funding, and the potential to become an outstanding teacher/mentor of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds. Applicants at the assistant professor level are preferred.
