The Geological Sciences Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, invites applications for a tenure-track, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position, beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year. We invite applications from geoscientists whose research incorporates data from ground-based remote sensing or observations from unmanned aerial vehicles or satellites. The position is open to a broad range of research specializations, such as natural hazards, active tectonics, environmental geoscience, and/or climate change. A Ph.D. in geology, geophysics, environmental geoscience or a directly related science or engineering discipline is required. The successful candidate will have the potential for excellence in teaching, and for developing an externally-funded research program that will involve undergraduate and Master's students. Teaching responsibilities will include a mix of geoscience courses at the lower division, upper division, and graduate levels, and incorporate classes in Geographic Information Systems, RemoteSensing or other specialty courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Demonstrated experience with data collection and analysis using modern instrumentation is expected. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated success with external funding, established ties to research institutions, industry, or government agencies and interest in developing interdepartmental and cross-campus collaborations.
