Liberal Studies at New York University includes an innovative, interdisciplinary two-year liberal arts Core Program and the Global Liberal Studies bachelor’s degree. Liberal Studies is inviting applications for a one-year postdoctoral faculty fellow with expertise in ESL education to begin June 1, 2018, pending administrative and budgetary approval.

The postdoctoral faculty fellow will be responsible for developing and delivering a pilot program to improve the English comprehension, writing, and speaking skills of approximately 60 entering undergraduates with TOEFL Speaking Scores in the range of 22-25. These students will simultaneously be taking a full-time course load (16-18 credits) in Liberal Studies. Elements of the program might include:

In addition to their work with ESL students, the Faculty Fellow’s might be assigned to teach Writing II or another LS Core Program course in the spring semester.

An open search for a full-time, renewable contract faculty member to continue the program may succeed the pilot year.

Minimum qualifications: a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in an appropriate field by the date of appointment; commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching; some college-level experience teaching in and administering ESL programs. The successful candidate will have received the Ph.D. or terminal degree no more than three years before taking up the appointment. Salary is $45,000 p.a. plus University benefits. The faculty fellow will be provided with an office, a computer, and professional development funds. Housing is not provided.
