Bates College: Visiting Assistant Professor of Marine Ecology

The Bates College Department of Biology invites applications for a three-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Marine Ecology, beginning August 1, 2018.

Teaching responsibilities will include an upper-level course in marine ecology, rotation in our introductory ecology and evolutionary biology course, and elective courses in the applicant’s area of expertise (e.g., oceanography, marine invertebrates, phycology, biostatistics). The successful applicant will be expected to mentor undergraduate student research projects during the second and third years of the appointment. We expect teaching and research supervision to make connections to other majors such as environmental studies or geology; applicants should highlight potential connections in their application materials.

Bates and the Biology Department are committed to enhancing the diversity of the campus and the curriculum. We welcome applications from all individuals with the ability to contribute to the college’s continuing commitment to social and cultural diversity, inclusiveness, and the transformative power of our differences. The search committee expects applicants to identify their strengths and experiences in these areas and describe how their research, teaching, and/or outreach can further this goal.

Ph.D. is required by the start date, postdoctoral experience is preferred.
