University of Maine: Director of the Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics, Undergraduate Program Coordinator, and Lecturer in Human Nutrition

Purpose: The School of Food and Agriculture seeks candidates for a full-time, nine month non-tenure track lecturer position, with one month of summer salary, in the program area of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSN). The candidate will direct the Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (DP) and serve as the undergraduate Program Coordinator for the FSN program. The School of Food and Agriculture (www.umaine.edu/foodandagriculture/) has 35 faculty members, over 450 undergraduate students, and about 50 graduate students.

Duties and Responsibilities: This is a 100% teaching, non-tenure track position, which includes program leadership responsibilities. The DP Director is responsible for the management of the DP Program including the curriculum, students, records, and program assessment, and all activities related to maintenance of program accreditation. The DP Director also mentors and advises students preparing to apply to a Dietetic Internship program. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses including, but not limited to, FSN 103 Science of Food Preparation, FSN 202 Foodservice Management, and FSN 305 Foods Lab. This position also serves as the FSN Undergraduate Program Coordinator, with responsibilities for recruiting undergraduate students in FSN, advising first-year students in FSN, teaching the orientation course for first year students, leading department efforts in curriculum revision and outcomes assessment, attending College program coordinator meetings, and related responsibilities. Additional responsibilities may include teaching graduate classes, such as FSN 506 Nutritional Assessment, and serving on graduate committees.

Knowledge and Skills Qualifications: A graduate degree is required by date of hire, with an earned doctorate in Nutrition or a closely-related discipline preferred. An RD/RDN credential, and at least three years of professional experience post-credentialing, are required. Other measures of potential for success are desirable, including excellent communication skills; experience in dietetic practice, and successful experience in college-level instruction, mentoring, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
