University of Maine: Assistant Professor of Human Nutrition 50% instruction / 50% research

The School of Food and Agriculture (umaine.edu/foodandagriculture/) seeks candidates for a full-time, 9 month tenure-track assistant professor position. The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally- recognized, extramurally-funded research program in behavioral nutrition. Examples of possible areas of specialization include: 1) effective models for nutrition education and behavior change, 2) understanding environmental influences on nutrition and physical activity behaviors, 3) nutrition education interventions to reduce chronic disease risk and/or prevent obesity, and 4) environmental approaches that promote healthy communities, food systems, and behaviors. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join a well-established, successful multi-state research project on behavioral and environmental assessments of factors associated with nutritional health in young adult communities. The teaching assignment includes: FSN 401 Community Nutrition, FSN 101 Introduction to Food and Nutrition in alternate years, FSN 671 Advanced Graduate Seminar, and a graduate course in alternate years. In addition to advising undergraduates, the successful candidate will be expected to support undergraduate research and honors thesis projects, and to both recruit and advise graduate students. An earned doctorate in Nutrition or a closely-related discipline is required and an RD/RDN credential is preferred.
