University of California, Davis: Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture

The Department of Human Ecology in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture with a preferred emphasis in urban plant materials, planting design, and applied urban ecology, an expertise that addresses a range of contemporary design and planning challenges related to accelerated landscape and climatic change, and which advances academic knowledge in the field. This is an academic year (9-month), tenure track, Assistant Professor position that includes the expectation of mission-oriented research and outreach relevant to the California Agricultural Experiment Station (AES).

The Department of Human Ecology is seeking applicants that focus on one or more areas of concentration such as ecologically based urban planning and design, ecological/green infrastructure, brownfield remediation, phytoremediation and restoration techniques, landscape urbanism, public horticulture (including open space, public gardens and wellbeing), and drought-tolerant landscapes (including xeriscaping and water conservation). The successful candidate will coordinate with existing departmental colleagues who have expertise in landscape architecture, planning, urban ecology, and environmental horticulture.

The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program in landscape architecture and environmental design to address critical or emerging societal issues relating to the use of landscape and vegetative materials in the urbanized environment, while also addressing economic and socially sustainable design and development. The successful candidate may also pursue research collaborations with the Center for Urban Horticulture, the Road Ecology Center, The John Muir Institute, the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden, the Center for Regional Change, and the Department of Plant Sciences, including a faculty member with expertise in urban horticultural crops being hired as part of the CIRE-2 proposal in the Department of Plant Sciences.
