Humboldt State University: Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Microbiology (Microbial Ecology or Environmental Microbiology)

Humboldt State University’s Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for an academic year tenure-track faculty position in Microbiology with expertise in microbial ecology or environmental microbiology, expected to begin as early as August 2018. We seek to fill this position at the Assistant Professor rank; however, rank and salary are dependent on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.

Dedication to superior instruction of undergraduates is a long-standing tradition at Humboldt State University. The Department of Biological Sciences is known for providing students with balanced and well-rounded degrees in Biology, Botany, and Zoology. We also have an active graduate (Master’s level) program in Biology. Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a strong, externally funded, research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students. Instructional assignments may include an introductory course in Cell/Molecular Biology, an upper-division course in Bacteriology or Microbiology, and one or more upper-division or graduate level courses in the candidate’s specialty area such as Microbial Ecology or Marine Microbiology.

Professional Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. or equivalent in Microbiology or related field from an accredited college or university is required at the time of appointment. We are interested in candidates with expertise in with a specialization in microbial ecology or environmental microbiology and a record of effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Our ideal candidate will have a record of involving students in research and scholarly activity at undergraduate and Master’s level and a commitment to teaching excellence that incorporates a variety of methodologies at undergraduate and Master’s level.
