University of Maine: TWO Positions at School of Food and Agriculture

Assistant Professor of Human Nutrition 50% instruction / 50% research

The School of Food and Agriculture (umaine.edu/foodandagriculture/) seeks candidates for a full-time, 9 month tenure-track assistant professor position. The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally- and internationally-recognized, extramurally-funded research program in behavioral nutrition. Examples of possible areas of specialization include: 1) effective models for nutrition education and behavior change, 2) understanding environmental influences on nutrition and physical activity behaviors, 3) nutrition education interventions to reduce chronic disease risk and/or prevent obesity, and 4) environmental approaches that promote healthy communities, food systems, and behaviors. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join a well-established, successful multi-state research project on behavioral and environmental assessments of factors associated with nutritional health in young adult communities. The teaching assignment includes: FSN 401 Community Nutrition, FSN 101 Introduction to Food and Nutrition in alternate years, FSN 671 Advanced Graduate Seminar, and a graduate course in alternate years. In addition to advising undergraduates, the successful candidate will be expected to support undergraduate research and honors thesis projects, and to both recruit and advise graduate students. Requirements include an earned doctorate in Nutrition or a closely-related discipline and an RD/RDN credential.

Nutrition Lecturer and Director of the Dietetics Internship Program 100% instruction

The School of Food and Agriculture (umaine.edu/foodandagriculture/) seeks a Director of the Dietetic Internship Program. This is a 9-month position, with two additional months of summer salary provided. This position also includes on-line undergraduate teaching, including FSN 101, Introduction to Food and Nutrition, and FSN 270 World Food and Nutrition, or a similar course. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to advise FSN undergraduate majors. Teaching responsibilities linked to the Dietetics Internship Program include: FSN 650 Dietetic Internship Orientation and Applications I, FSN 651 Dietetic Internship Orientation and Applications II, FSN 652 Dietetic Internship Evaluation, and FSN 681 Dietetic Internship Supervised Practice. The Dietetic Internship Program Director provides leadership to the program (umaine.edu/foodandagriculture/dietic-internship-ispp/) through supervision, communication, and evaluation, and maintains a program that complies with the Standards of Education of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In administering the program, the Director plans, visits, and takes leadership in the evaluation of the supervised practice sites and rotations; coordinates the internship application and selection process; and organizes faculty, preceptor and advisory meetings. A graduate degree is required by date of hire, with an earned doctorate in Nutrition or a closely-related discipline preferred. An RD/RDN credential is required.
