Brown University: Postdoctoral Research Associate in Population Studies

The Population Studies and Training Center (PSTC) at Brown University is currently recruiting a two-year Postdoctoral Research Associate to start on or around July 1, 2017.

Research at the PSTC is innovative and interdisciplinary. It is distinguished by its commitment for collaboration across disciplinary and institutional boundaries as well as its strong portfolio of global research. The scope of PSTC research encompasses traditional topics of interest to demographers, such as migration and family processes, as well as a much broader range of issues, including environmental change, social inequalities and health, gender, family structure, residential segregation, and HIV/AIDS epidemic. Opportunities also exist to build upon connections the PSTC has with other interdisciplinary units at Brown, such as the Watson Institute for International and Policy Affairs, Institute at Brown for Environment and Society, Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences, the School of Public Health, the Data Sciences Initiative, and more. Potential applicants are encouraged to consult the PSTC website to learn of research activities, intra-institutional links, and faculty affiliate interests.

As part of a research unit with a strong culture of collaboration, postdoctoral fellows are expected to spend part of their time working independently and part of their time working collaboratively with one or more mentors from among our faculty affiliates. In addition, postdoctoral associates are expected to coordinate or participate in relevant working groups, regularly attend the weekly PSTC Colloquia and other PSTC workshops and mentoring activities, present their work to the PSTC community, present research at the Population Association of America (PAA) annual meetings, and submit one or more articles for publication. They are also encouraged to prepare grant applications. We request that applicants visit our PSTC faculty page and identify one or two potential faculty mentors; however, applicants do not need to contact potential mentors prior to submitting an application.
