University of Houston-Downtown: Assistant Professor in Urban Education - Social Studies Education

The Department of Urban Education at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level with appointment beginning fall 2013.

An earned doctorate in social/social studies education or in a related field with a focus on social/social studies education and a state issued teaching certificate are required. Doctoral candidates who are nearing completion are also encouraged to apply. University level teaching experience and at least three years public school teaching experience are preferred. All candidates must have demonstrated ability and/or interest in teaching in a multi-ethnic, multicultural environment.

Responsibilities include teaching social studies education related courses in an undergraduate teacher certification program and a Master of Arts in Teaching program and maintaining an active research agenda. All faculty members are expected to participate in the department’s field-based program and work corroboratively with other faculty in the EC-6, 4-8, and 8-12 programs and with public school partners.
