Bowdoin College: Faculty Position in Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics at Bowdoin College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor starting Fall 2013. Preference will be given to applicants whose professional interests lie in combinatorics or probability and who appreciate the rich interplay of theoretical mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics supported and encouraged by our department. Bowdoin is building an environment in which students and faculty from across the disciplines can employ computational approaches to enrich their work. We welcome applications from candidates who can contribute to this effort. Bowdoin values a strong commitment to research and a promise of successful scholarly engagement as well as a dedication to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment. Regular teaching load is two courses per semester, generally one calculus or introductory level course and one intermediate or advanced course. Ph.D. preferred, advanced ABDs considered.
Bowdoin College accepts only electronic submissions. Please visit www.MathJobs.org to submit a cover letter, AMS application cover sheet, resume, statement of research and/or professional activity plans, statement on teaching philosophy, and at least three letters of recommendation.
Review of applications will begin December 3, 2012, and will continue until the position is filled. We expect to participate in the Mathematical Sciences Employment Center at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Diego in January 2013. Please indicate in your cover letter if you plan to attend the Joint Meetings.
Founded in 1794 on the Maine coast, Bowdoin is one of the oldest and most selective coeducational, residential liberal arts colleges in the country. Bowdoin College is committed to equality and is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage inquiries from candidates who will enrich and contribute to the cultural and ethnic diversity of our college. Bowdoin College does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, creed, color, religion, marital status, gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, veteran status, national origin, or disability status in employment, or in our education programs.
Bowdoin College offers strong support for faculty research and teaching. We also recognize that recruiting and retaining faculty may involve considerations of spouses and domestic partners. To that end, where possible the College will attempt to accommodate and respond creatively to the needs of spouses and partners of members of the faculty.
