Colorado HIV-1 Postdoctoral Research Training Program

The Colorado HIV-1 Research Training Program is seeking applications for support of postdoctoral training in HIV/AIDS-related research for the 2010-2011 academic year. The Program provides training in the conduct of basic, translational and clinical HIV-AIDS related research under the direction of faculty mentors at the University of Colorado Denver and affiliated institutions. Trainees receive salary and benefits support according to NIH guidelines, travel funds, and funds to pay for training-related coursework.
Trainees must have the following qualifications:
- Hold a terminal degree in their field (e.g., D.D.S, D.O., D.N.P., D.V.M., M.D., Pharm.D. and/or Ph.D.)
- Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent U.S. resident “Green Card” holder
- Commitment to a career as an investigator in HIV-related research
- Be able to devote full-time effort to the training program during the one to three year period of support.
Applications should be submitted electronically to the Program Education Administrator, Sandra Wigginton (sandra.wigginton@ucdenver.edu). It should include the following:
- 1) An NIH style biosketch or curriculum vitae.
- 2) Description of the applicant’s past research experience, and future research interest.
- 3) A statement from the applicant that describes their plans for, and commitment to a career in HIV/AIDS-related investigation.
- 4) A statement of support from the research mentor. See application instructions.
Application Instructions:
Applications must be submitted electronically to the CHRTP Administrator, Sandra Wigginton (sandra.wigginton@ucdenver.edu). Initial awards will be for one year period, but awardees may apply to extend the length of support.
Successful applications must include the following:
- 5) A plan and rationale for research related coursework to be taken during the training period (limit 1 page). The following UCD courses, or their equivalents at other institutions, are required: CLSC 7101, Grant Writing 1; CLSC 7102, Grant Writing 2; and Colorado CFAR Research Seminar and Journal Club. Applicants who are planning careers in clinical or translational investigation are required to include course work in biostatistics in their training plan.
- 6) A concise (limit 2 pages, Arial 11 point font) description of a plan for mentored research project related to HIV/AIDS. The research project plan must include the following elements: Specific Aims, Hypothesis, Background and Rationale, and Experimental Design.
- 7) A statement from the applicant that describes his/her plans for, and commitment to a career in HIV/AIDS investigation (limit 1 page).
- 8) A statement of support from the research mentor. Research mentors must be part of the CHRTP faculty (limit 1 page). Potential applicants who have not yet identified a research mentor should contact Dr. Thomas Campbell for suggestions on potential mentors. Potential mentors who are not yet members of the CHRTP faculty should also contact Dr. Campbell at thomas.campbell@ucdenver.edu.
