Moravian College: Vertebrate Biologist

The Department of Biological Sciences at Moravian College invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2020. Applicants must have their Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment.

We are looking for a vertebrate biologist whose expertise complements that of current members of the department. Areas of particular interest could include comparative anatomy, development, behavior, and/or evolutionary biology but all appropriate areas will be considered.

Success as a faculty member at Moravian is evaluated on the basis of teaching, scholarship, and service. Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a variety of disciplines, diverse cultures, socioeconomic and academic backgrounds is important. Applicants who provide strong evidence pointing to their ability to flourish in a small college environment will be seriously considered.

Teaching is paramount at Moravian. Each semester, faculty in the sciences typically teach two lecture courses (3 hours each per week) and two laboratory sections (3 hours each per week).

The new faculty hire will be responsible for teaching:

Other courses depending on college and department needs and the candidate's interests; these might include an upper level seminar course, a portion of the introductory sequence for biology majors, or a non-majors course

Scholarship at Moravian is evaluated in many ways, but carrying out research with undergraduates is critical. Moravian offers several opportunities for students to participate in research: SOAR, Honors, and Independent Study. The research statement should explicitly address how undergraduates will be able to participate in the applicant's research program. Startup funding is available for this position.

Service to the institution takes a variety of forms, including committee participation and student advising. We are looking for scholars and teachers who will actively contribute to both their discipline and the broader intellectual community at Moravian.

Deadline to apply is October 4, 2019

To Apply: Qualified candidates should attach a letter of interest, curriculum vita, graduate transcript and evidence of teaching effectiveness to their online application by going to www.moravian.edu/hr/employment/job-opportunities. Please attach documents as a PDF file. Qualified candidates should also arrange to have three (3) letters of recommendation sent to [email protected].

Review of applications will begin October 4, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.

Moravian College is an equal opportunity employer valuing diversity and encouraging individuals from under-represented populations to apply. EOE
