Wellesley College: Assistant Professor of Islamic Art

The Department of Art at Wellesley College (www.wellesley.edu/art) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor specializing in the art, architecture, and/or material culture of the Islamic world before 1500. The successful candidate will develop a curriculum attentive to the intersections of Islamicate arts with the arts of the Western Medieval and Byzantine worlds. We seek a colleague with interests in transcultural exchange and global art history, a dedication to educating and mentoring women from around the world, and a commitment to combining rigorous research and impactful publications with passionate and innovative teaching on an undergraduate liberal arts campus. The successful candidate will teach a 2-2 load comprising one section of our intro survey, two lecture courses, and one seminar and will be expected to participate fully in both the department and college communities and to strengthen our connections to interdisciplinary programs in Architecture, Book Arts, Middle Eastern Studies, and/or Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
