Center for Neural Science and Center for Data Science
Arts and Science

The Center for Data Science (CDS) and the Center for Neural Science (CNS) invite applications for an open rank joint faculty position, anticipated to begin September 2019. Appointments may be made at either junior or senior level. We seek exceptional candidates that can carry out research programs aimed at quantitative analysis and modeling of neural data, and developing related data science tools and methods, leveraging existing strengths of CNS and CDS. We are particularly interested in scholars with cross-disciplinary research interests that complement those of our existing faculty. The successful candidate will be a faculty member in both units, with teaching, service, and other professional duties split between them.

CDS is the focal point for NYU's university-wide initiative in data science and statistics, established 5 years ago, and one of the country's leading data science research and training facilities. CDS is a vibrant space with about 15 jointly appointed faculty (growing to over 20 in the next two years) and about 10 associated faculty across computer science, mathematics, engineering, neural science, linguistics, politics, psychology, physics, biology and business; a list of affiliate faculty spanning a wide range of NYU's schools and departments, a highly successful Masters program and one of the first Data Science PhD programs. CDS's research focuses on tools and methods at the intersection between applied mathematics, data science, high-dimensional statistics, machine learning, optimization, and several data driven application areas.

CNS fosters a collaborative research environment, with faculty interests spanning theory and computation, molecular and cellular neurobiology, sensory and motor systems, and behavior and cognition. Further information is available at

New York University (NYU) is situated in Greenwich Village, one of the most vibrant and family friendly neighborhoods in the City of New York.

Appointees are expected to be outstanding research scholars, and to contribute to teaching and advising of students at all levels both at CNS and CDS. Candidates should have completed a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
